Our Story
Before founding Turtle Beans Coffee Roaster, Steven’s life was rich with diverse experiences. Growing up in Costa Rica, his deep understanding of coffee and work ethic was nurtured by his mother Ada back in the coffee fields. This inspired Steven to “dream big”, guiding him from Perez Zeledon to Heredia, where he earned a degree in International Relations. While interning at the Chilean Embassy, he felt a calling to Christian mission work, leading him to pursue Theology and Pastoral Ministries degree. This path eventually brought him to Washington State, where he met Linda—a West Coast native with a deep appreciation for the Seattle coffee scene, but deeper love for pastries and baked goods, especially those she learned from her Mexican heritage like “Conchas.”

At the time, while working full time Linda was also finishing her degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at Seattle Pacific University. The “legend” says their bond sparked over a bowl of snickerdoodle cookies that Linda baked the first time they met….Late-night coffee shop conversation soon followed, and the rest is history…Seven years later, after a cross-country adventure with their Golden Doodles, Gordo and Nala, the couple found a nest for their dream at a beautiful Historical City in central jersey called Bordentown.
At Turtle Beans, their relationship with coffee farmers is at the heart of everything they do. Steven and Linda carefully source specialty-graded beans directly from farmers around the world, building partnerships rooted in trust, respect, and sustainability. Each cup of coffee reflects this dedication, with every brew crafted to honor the hard work and artistry of the farmers. The result is a rich, sensorial experience that not only celebrates the art of coffee but also strengthens the global community that makes it possible.

"Each cup of coffee reflects this dedication, with every brew crafted to honor the hard work and artistry of the farmers."
Looking ahead, as Turtle Beans grows, they plan to partner with local and global organizations to support turtle conservation. This initiative aligns beautifully to their love for coffee and their commitment to environmental stewardship, extending their impact from the farms they source to turtle’s and tortoise’s habitats worldwide.
This small business is Designed for those who value community, mindfulness, and good vibes. Their slogan, “Slow down and sip the journey,” reflects their philosophy that coffee can be a ritual of joy and presence in the rush of daily life. They plan to host workshops, coffee tastings, and events that bring people together, sparking creativity and conversations around sustainability, mindfulness, and the art of living fully.
